Grand Chapter Recap: Beta Kappa Receives McCune (3-Peat)

From Sigma Tau Gamma - 44th Grand Chapter (2010)
At the 44th Grand Chapter, Brothers from nearly 70 active chapters, alumni, and friends gathered to celebrate Sigma Tau Gamma's 90th Birthday in Cleveland, OH. The convention began with a birthday party Thursday evening to welcome everybody to Grand Chapter. Friday brought together the House of Delegates (the supreme governing body of the fraternity) and other key-note speakers and presenters before a large brotherhood event at Progressive Field where the Cleveland Indians won in the bottom of the 9th inning against the Twins. Saturday began early with breakfast and quickly into the legislative session. Many resolutions were discussed and following lunch, elections were held. Brother Kahl presented the nomination speech for Brother Tom Morgan (Phi, 85'). Brother Morgan was successful in his run for President-elect and former Regional Vice-President of the Great Lakes Region, Jonathan Proehl, was elected for his second term on the Board of Directors. Following elections, everybody convened for dinner and the annual awards banquet. Current Regional Vice President for the Great Lakes Region, Jeremy Daus received the Weinbrenner Medal for Distinguished Service and the Beta Kappa Chapter received the W.T. Hembree Leadership Award, runner-up for Chapter Communications Award for this newer site, runner-up for the Emmit Ellis Scholarship Award, and lastly, the coveted Edward H. McCune Distinguished Chapter of the Year Award. This marks the third year in a row that the Beta Kappa Chapter has received this honor. "This is wonderful news! Congratulations! We are all very proud of the members of our [La Crosse] chapter," Chancellor Joe Gowof UW-L, said this morning after hearing the news. Please join in congratulating the men of the Beta Kappa Chapter for their accomplishments and that only would come as a result from their hard work and dedication to one-another and the fraternity.

Restoring Hope: Live on Through Organ Donation

Restoring Hope Poster Sig Tau at UW-La Crosse held the La Crosse Kick-Off of the new online Wisconsin organ donor registration program. The previous program worked with the DMVs throughout the state, but because of a "lack of consent," not all individuals who added an orange donor sticker would be able to donate organs if the situation arose. The new program and online database will expedite the process of identifying individuals as donors. To commemorate the kick-off of the new online registration program the Sig Taus held "Restoring Hope" an event that showcased transplant recipients from the UW-L community. The primary goal of the program was to bring awareness to organ donation and encourage others to become donors and register on the new program. With the help of area businesses, members families, and donors, door prizes were given away and silent auction items brought in about $700 for the Restoring Hope Transplant Halfway House in Madison, WI.
